Marc Darcy is a Manchester-based brand that specialises in dressing the ‘quintessential English gentleman’, by ‘creating the finest men’s garments with a modern twist.’
The brand has been going for almost 30 years, and has been the suit of choice for countless celebrities – most recently, Spencer Matthews and Hugo Taylor of Made in Chelsea fame, Love Island’s Tommy Fury and Jack Fowler, and sports stars James Guy, Danny Mills and Lutalo Muhammad.
Marc Darcy suits are known for their staple fabrics of tweed, velvet and herringbone, as these are traditionally affiliated with British style. Tweed, associated with the countryside and society’s upper echelons, might be seen as a more old-fashioned choice, yet it reoccurs on the high street and on runways time and again. It’s clearly a staple of British fashion and therefore in keeping with the ‘quintessential English’ attire Marc Darcy is aiming for.
Velvet, as we explored in our Winter Weddings blog, is a perfect material to keep you warm for wintertime functions such as weddings, work outings and formal dinners. They can be a bold choice, not least as they have the tendency to carry associations with Austin Powers, yet notably they were a favourite for menswear at this years’ Oscars. If you’re brave enough, opt for a muted colour like dark blue that won’t attract too much attention, yet will still retain comfort and class.
Herringbone cloth is a more muted fabric, yet still packs a punch when tailored in a three-piece suit. The pattern is so called because it resembles the skeleton of a herring fish. Herringbone-patterned fabric is usually wool, and is one of the most popular cloths used for suits and outerwear. Interestingly, much like tweed, it was traditionally the fabric of the workers’ uniforms, before landowners and gentry found that they liked the practicality of the fabric and reimagined it for the wealthier gentleman.
Our extensive collections of Marc Darcy suits cover both traditional and contemporary styles, with a wide-ranging choice of colours. Our versatile menswear can be worn for weddings, prom nights, black tie events or a day at the races.
